Disciple Bible Study
"If you make my word your home you will indeed be my disciples." John 8:31
Disciple is a four phased program of disciplined bible study focusing on the disciple as learner, believer, follower, pro-claimer, and servant.The purpose of Disciple is to develop strong Christian leaders through regular in-depth study of Scripture. Classes (approximately 34 weeks) start in the Fall and conclude in the Spring.
Disciple I - Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study
An overview of the entire Bible (gives equal time to the Old and NewTestaments) emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as the revelation of God.
Disciple II - Into the Word
Concentrates on Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts. Encourages the disciple to be open to hearing what God has to say to them through the Bible and to be guided into their particular ministry in the world by Scripture and his/her study of it. A 32 week study usually led by a lay person.
Disciple III - Remember Who You Are
Emphasizes the connection between memory and identity as the people of God. Participants in this study will read the major and minor Old Testament prophets, with exception to Daniel, and will read the thirteen Letters traditionally attributed to Paul. A 32 week study usually led by a lay person.
Disciple IV - Under The Tree Of Life
Concentrates on the Writings in the Old Testament and the Gospel of John:1,2, and 3 John ; James; Jude ; Revelation. Emphasis on the Psalms leads naturally to a focus on worship in the study. A 32 week study usually led by a lay person.
DISCIPLE BIBLE STUDY OFFERINGS
FALL 2011 (Classes currently being held.)
I Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study is the foundation for the
Disciple Bible Study Program. This study gives equal time to both the Old and New Testament, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as the revelation of God. Rev. Duke Lackey will be teaching this class on Tuesday evening class at 6:30 pm. We must have 8 participants that have never taken the class. The class is open to 12 participants.
IV Under The Tree of Life- Study of the wisdom literature in the Old Testament, and Letters of John, James, Jude and Revelations. Present though the entire study is the sense of living toward completion, toward the climax of the message and the promise, extravagantly pictured in Revelations. Harriet Byrd will be teaching this class on Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm.
The class is open to 12 participants. You must have completed Disciple I to take this study.
