Full Belly Project

No, this is not about a competition to eat the most at our fish fry or pig picking - it’s the brain child of Jock Brandis, a local engineer that invented a simple and inexpensive peanut sheller to benefit third world countries that were shelling peanuts by hand. On Saturday, January 12, 2008 eleven UMM participated in the production of several peanut shellers that will be sent to needy people in Africa. The experience was uplifting and intriguing to learn the process of making these labor saving devices. We also learned about the need for simple mechanical help that is practical. This helped increase productivity and efficiency of providing much needed food for the poor and hungry. A video of how these shellers are used and how the project benefits the people can be seen on the web site fullbellyproject.org. The men who participated were; our pastor Rev. Jesse Staton, Jr. Marion Shade, Kirk Binning, Sam Snyder, Billy Martin, Ray Blackburn, Harvel Horrell, Howard Kelly, Willie Bryan, Dave Strohpaul, and Mike Davis. Future trips to the shop on 1020 Chestnut Street in Wilmington will be announced. If interested, please contact Mike Davis at 686-7805 or seaholly@bellsouth.net.
